Mrs. Henrietta Beasley Foster was born on October 4, 1903 in Longview, Texas. Later her parents move to Dallas, Texas, and finally moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she spent the rest of her life. She attended the public schools and graduated from the Douglass High School.
Mrs. Foster received a BA degree from Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. While attending Wiley College she became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. through the Theta Chapter. On December 12, 1936 she joined with 4 additional women to charter the Chi Zeta Chapter. She was the 1st President of the Chi Zeta Chapter.
Mrs. Foster earned a masters degree in library science from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia. She worked as a librarian at Douglass High School and Moon Junior High in Oklahoma City, retiring from the school system in 1968. Henrietta was an active member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church serving as Bible teacher for the youth department; she had a beautiful contralto voice and rendered many unselfish services with her musical talent to churches, organizations, and weddings throughout Oklahoma City. At one time Soror Foster also had a recording studio in the city.
Mrs. Foster was the founder of the neighborhood association of the Harrison – Walnut area, working untiringly in this organization to convert dilapidated and deteriorating property in the neighborhood into a community center. The center was eventually given a building which was named in her memory. This building is currently known as the Foster Community Center and is located on Northeast 4th St. The Foster Community Center continues to be owned by Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department and is used for various community functions.
Henrietta was also a member of the World Federation of Methodist Women; the United Methodist Women and other local clubs. She live in active and beautiful Christian life.
Mrs. Foster departed life on November 4, 1978. Her legacy of Service, Scholarship, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood lives on through the work of the Chi Zeta Chapter.
