Ora Pearl Moten was born on June 16, 1938 in Oklahoma City.
She attended Tuskegee Institute in Alabama where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. She also received her Masters Degree in Public Health from the University of Oklahoma.
On July 22, 1972, Ora Pearl Moten joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. through the Chi Zeta Chapter. Ora Moten served as the chapter’s 24th president.
Moten taught at Langston University for 16 years in the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, and worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital for over 30 years. For 20 of those years she was the Chief Dietician. In May 1993 She was named the employee of the month by Edmond Hospital.
As an active member of Chi Zeta, Ora Moten has served in numerous capacities: working with the Stork’s Nest, ZHope programs, and the Finer Wimanhood Committee. On March 4, 1999, she was named Zeta of the Year in recognition of her outstanding service.
She served on as a member of the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes. In addition she has consulted with 12 different nursing homes in the area of Nutrition and Dietetics in Oklahoma.
She is a life-long member of Quayle United Methodist Church and has served in numerous capacities. In 2017 she served as President of the Quayle United Methodist Women, and a Board member for the Wesley Foundation at Langston University. She has served as a communion steward, coordinator of the food service ministry. In addition, she has represented Quayle United Methodist Church as Lay Delegate to the Oklahoma Annual Conference.
Ora Pearl Moten is a part of a large family of Sigmas and Zetas. She has been surrounded by Zetas: one aunt, three sisters, six nieces, two great nieces, and her daughter; and Sigmas: a brother in law and one great nephew.
Soror Ora Pearl Moten departed this life on May 26, 2018. Her legacy of kindness and mentor ship will be honored through our service.
