Soror Tobytha Battle was born in Oklahoma City. She is one of nine children and is blessed to have a twin sister. She and her twin are one of two sets of twins born unto her parents. She was the first Black Football Queen for Luther High School. Soror Battle has one married son and two granddaughters. She received her bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Oklahoma and received her master’s Degree in Education from Central State University, Edmond, Oklahoma.
In 1977, Soror Battle was initiated into the Chi Zeta Graduate Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She has held many offices and served on numerous committees. More specifically she was elected as Chi Zeta’s 26th chapter Basileus, serving two terms. She was past First and Second Anti Basileus, Tamias Grammateus, Epistoleus, and was elected Zeta of the Year. She served on the Finer Womanhood Committee and was an Emcee during one of its luncheons. She also served on the nominating committee, Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Walk committee, March of Dimes committee and she represented Chi Zeta chapter for the Martin Luther King Day Sunday services at St. John’s Baptist Church services. Tobytha has attended Oklahoma State conferences and Midwestern Regional Conferences. She has been elected to serve as a delegate at National Boule’s as well as attended Zeta’s Boule in Washington, D.C. where our Sorors assisted our Brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. celebrate 100 years of brotherhood.
Tobytha is a very active member of the Church of the Living God Ministries. There, she serves in many capacities such as Pastor’s Aide, Deaconess, Director of Christian Education, Choir member, Usher and City-Wide Usher, Sunday School teacher, past Sunday School Superintendent, past CWFT 6th District Assistant Superintendent, Women’s Ministry, Annual Women’s Retreat Committee. Currently, Tobytha is the Wiz Kid’s Coordinator.
Soror Battle worked 39 years for Oklahoma City Public School System as a teacher at CapitolHill High School. As a teacher there, Soror Battle taught Special Education and English for the 11th and 12th grades. She also was the Special Olympics coach, Prom Sponsor for 20 years, the first girls head basketball coach and one the founders of the Black Student Union. Tobytha was also a finalist for Teacher of the Year in the late 1990s.
Soror Battle has attended both Inaugurations for President Barack Obama. She is also a member of the Eastern Star Progressive Chapter #15 in Luther, Oklahoma.
As a Life Member, Tobytha is still very active within the Chi Zeta Chapter and serves as the chapter’s Stork Nest Chairperson.
