Soror Marian Martin has been a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. for over fifty years. She began her Zeta sisterhood in March 1961 as an undergraduate member of the Beta Gamma Chapter. During her undergraduate years, Soror Martin served as Basileus and Tamias.
As a graduate member of the Chi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Soror Martin has worn many hats. She has served as the 3rd Anti Basileus, Undergraduate Adviser, Grammateus from 2009 to 2015, ZHope Coordinator from 2005 to 2010 and was on the Board of Director’s for the Stork’s Nest. Furthering her dedication to the chapter, she has tirelessly worked with the Stork’s Nest since it inception in 1972. Her tenure with the Stork’s Nest endured for 45 years until June 30, 2017. While working on one of her favorite committees, the Stork’s Nest, Soror Martin penned historical information, bylaws, grants, and monthly Stork’s Nest newsletters. Soror Martin’s second favorite committee was ZHope. Within the ZHope committee she initiated a curriculum that coordinated prenatal classes for pregnant teens and the fathers at SeeWorth Academy. Additionally, she introduced classes on Sexual Responsibility, Abstinence as a Choice, Nutrition, Bullying, Abuse and more.
Marian has received numerous awards within the Sorority. In 2006 she received a plaque in recognition for the Stork’s Nest. In 2007 and 2012 she was awarded Zeta of the Year. Also, in 2012, she became a Zeta Dove and was one of two Sorors to complete all the chapters Community service goals for the sorority year. In 2016 she became a member of the National Zeta Legacy Club and wrote articles for entry into two National Anthologies – Finer Womanhood and Scholarship.
Soror Martin has also dedicated a substantial portion of her life to Corpus ChristiCatholic School and Church by sharing her talents and writing skills. She wrote a grant and received $15,000.00 in grant money to purchase a van for the church. She also worked with the Funeral Meals Committee, Treasurer and assisted by serving meals during holidays and meals to seniors and low-income applicants. Some of her responsibilities within the school included serving as PTA Secretary, Homeroom Mother and Parish School Lunch & Tuition Committee.
Soror Martin’s employment resume includes the Oklahoma State Personnel Board, DHS Personnel Department, Employment Security Commission, Statistical Analyst Manager and Research & Development. She also wrote articles for publication, supervised staff on data compilation, surveys, editing, coding for fourmajor Department of Labor programs. She retired in 1990 with 30 years of service for the state of Oklahoma.
Soror Martin is still a strong presence within the sorority, willing to do anything to further the cause of Zeta.
